Program Overview
Our Deaf Services Program empowers d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals with resources and support to succeed. The program offers various forms of assistance from daily living skills to benefits counseling, housing services, peer support, and driver’s license readiness. Quarterly workshops and Deaf Sensitivity Training sessions are also provided.
Responsibilities
- Provide ASL interpretation as needed. (Applicants may need to complete a language skills assessment)
- Assist staff at exhibit booths/events with setting up, cleaning, and interpreting. (Events may be outside the OC area)
- Design and edit marketing or workshop materials, including online event invitations, flyers, and videos.
- Research topics such as upcoming community events and local resources.
- Contact organizations to inquire about the services and accommodations they offer.
- Reach out to consumers to conduct surveys and notify staff members of completed surveys.
Desired Qualities
- Proficient or fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Proficient reading comprehension
- Comfortable using basic office equipment and Microsoft Windows
- Friendly attitude and a reliable team member
Requirements
- Complete the interview, pass a background check, and attend orientation
- Wear a face mask in the office
- Log volunteer hours after every shift
- Keep the Volunteer Coordinator informed about any changes or concerns
- Maintain the confidentiality of Dayle McIntosh Center information
Schedule
- Shifts available on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays from 10 am to 4:30 pm
- Four volunteer shifts per month preferred
- Remote tasks may be available
COVID-19 Policy
- DMC strongly recommends COVID-19 Vaccinations for all volunteers. Volunteers who are not vaccinated or prefer not to disclose vaccination status must provide a negative COVID-19 test 24 hours before visiting the DMC office.
